War in the Pacific National Historical Park announced on June 10 the restoration of three World War II Japanese naval guns located at the Piti Guns Unit. The three guns were manufactured in 1923 by Japanese steel workers and were installed on Guam in 1944 by forced Chamorro labor. Ponsford Ltd. of Acworth, Ga., was contracted for the restoration of the historical pieces. The company located the original paint color used on the Piti Guns and was able to repaint the pieces to closely match known historic Imperial Japanese Navy paint samples.
