The Palau Postal Service revealed two new commemorative sets of stamps on Jan. 4, showcasing the Olympic athletes who represented Palau at the Rio Olympics on one set and traditional Palauan dancers during the Festival of the Pacific Arts on the other. Each set contains 11 individual stamps.
The stamps are the first for Palau to portray the nation’s youth.
Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs Baklai Temengil-Chilton said that stamps honor the implementation phase of the Youth Policy developed last year, which was designated as the year of the youth.
The stamps will also record history for Palau, said President Thomas E. Remengesau Jr. at the release.
“Long after we’re gone, the stamps will document an event in the year 2016 for future generations,” he said.
