What feature of a hotel room, or lack thereof, can make or break your stay?

“I just came back from a four-week trip, and I can tell you that the answer is easy: internet access. When I travel I take my business with me, and my wife takes along all her Facebook friends too. Using wireless data roaming to stay connected is outrageously expensive, so any hotel I stay at must have good internet access. Because of all my devices — notebook, smartphone, tablets — the only acceptable connection is via Wi-Fi access at the hotel that works in the room and around the property.”

“A dirty room. I had a friend recently book a room, and the toilet was not flushed and the bathtub was dirty. Where tourism is our number one industry, there is just no excuse for a room to be dirty when you check in.”

“I think the biggest thing for my wife and I is cleanliness, especially the sheets and towels — nice towels that actually soak up water too help.”

“No Wi-Fi, no stay. Free Wi-Fi is a must. We live in a world of instant communications. We work while we travel, so access to the internet is crucial. Outlets and USB [ports]. Most of our travel packs include electronics: cell phones, iPads, laptops, GPS, cameras, curling iron and/or electric shavers. All these need charging or an electric outlet. When hotel rooms aren’t retrofitted to have a minimum of four outlets in the room and two in the bathroom, it can break a deal. [Also essential are] cable TV and The Movie Channel — we always want to keep abreast of breaking news while traveling.”

“Free Wi-Fi is a key hotel room feature that I consider when booking a room. When traveling, it is important to stay connected with my family and colleagues without the additional costs.”

“In the hotel room, Wi-Fi internet service is very important. The overall customer service of the hotel is critical too.”

“When searching for a hotel and before confirming reservation, I always make sure that there is Wi-Fi capability in the room and not in the business office or lobby only. If it’s free, even better, but if the price is outrageous, then I would look for a better option. Another feature that can make my stay is the capability to make hot water.”

“First off is if the room is the right size for the right price […]. Second is, of course, internet, as we all are so hooked to our gadgets now days. Last, but not least, I look for what is offered in the hotel, [such as a] gym, spa and bar.”
