The NMI was visited by several Asian media outlets for television, magazine and other media coverage:
- “Wonder,” a Japanese daily news program that airs to more than 590,000 households in the Osaka area, aired a 20-minute program about Tinian in June. The program featured a World War II memorial ceremony and historic sites on Tinian.
- Russian television show “Utro Rossii” interviewed Saipan historians and public figures for a June 1 program, including Scott Russell about indigenous Chamorro and Carolinian culture; Sharon Y. Hart, president of Northern Marianas College; Principal Raena Bermudes of GTC Elementary School; and World War II survivor David M. Sablan. The show also featured the NMI’s culinary traditions and tourist attractions. A local family shared the day with the film crew, preparing a local barbecue and performing local dances.
- Travelling Scope, a Chinese magazine with a circulation of 657,000, targets high-income groups making several trips a year and featured an eight-page spread on the Northern Marianas in June.
- WiTrip, a Chinese magazine with a circulation of 200,000, targets well-heeled members of large banks, high-end private clubs and other large companies and will feature the NMI from its May visit in a 10-page feature.
- “Sekai Summer Resort,” a Japanese travel television program, filmed for five days in June at various beaches on Saipan, Managaha and Hyatt Regency Saipan for its July 25 episode. The program broadcasts to 3.3 million households in Japan.
- “Sekai Ittemitara Honto ha Konna Tako Datta” spent three days filming in Rota in June for the overseas information variety show that aired on July 28 to 5.1 million households across Japan. The program introduced “Rota’s True Color” and attractions in a 54-minute program.
- Sankei Sports Tokyo Edition visited Saipan to prepare for a sports fishing article in its July edition. The daily newspaper distributes to more than 750,000 subscribers and newsstands and featured two winners of the Sanspo Fishing Challenge 2014 who won a fishing tour in Saipan from the Marianas Visitors Authority.
- “Insight People,” a popular program on Taiwanese television station TVBS that features global leaders, will feature an interview of MVA Managing Director Perry J.P. Tenorio with anchorwoman Georgina Fang. The interview will help bolster awareness of the NMI in Taiwan, where the MVA has operated a representative office since 2013. The show airs to an estimated 6.6 million viewers across Taiwan each week.
- Travel Plus, a Chinese magazine, dedicated six pages to the Northern Marianas in its August issue from its May visit.
- “What a Wonderful World,” a Chinese travel television program, filmed extensively over eight days on Saipan and Tinian for an episode to be aired in September. The program has more than 200 million viewers in China.
