An exception to the Norm

Guam Business congratulates Norman Tenorio on being named the 2014 Executive of the Year. The head of five businesses in the Northern Marianas to include Joeten Enterprises Inc., which comprises nine companies of its own, Tenorio has captured the attention and admiration of his fellow executives in the Marianas.

More than the quantity of businesses he oversees, the diversity of those businesses may well be what earned him this year’s recognition. Tenorio has demonstrated his ability to apply his leadership and corporate acumen to industries ranging from automotive to stevedoring, from franchised retail stores to wholesale supply, and from hardware outlets to grocery stores.

Tenorio’s accomplishments in the business world are underscored further by the fact that he was up against nine other worthy nominees. Not only do this year’s nominees have resumes filled with past accomplishments and boards they have served on, but they have all been active, progressive forces in their industries during the past year. Their momentum on various fronts is a valued and essential part of the health of Guam’s economy and community.

With the end of 2014, we have closed our Leisure Series in which we hope you enjoyed the more relaxed side of business interests to include golf, tennis, water activities, team sports, endurance events and gyms.

In 2015 we bring you a new series: Tourism Market Update. Each issue of 2015 will focus on one of Guam’s primary tourism markets starting this issue with the Korean market and continuing throughout the year. We hope you will look forward to the data and expert opinions on each market as we aim to include the details that are most relevant to your business operations and plans.

Another special feature in the 2015 issues of Guam Business will be Business Bites, bite-sized information on various segments of Guam’s dining scene. We start the year off highlighting the island’s happy hour hot spots where you can network, hold after business hours meetings or unwind from a busy day.

With hotel and real estate investment on the rise, the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act to fund the long-awaited military buildup and much forward movement in the diversification of our tourism markets and the betterment of our product, Guam and the Marianas are entering the New Year with a lot of promise for business opportunities.

As you continue to seek the industry perspectives and updates on the region’s economy and business climate in 2015, we will continue to make Guam Business a current and valuable tool for you.

Wishing you much success in 2015.
