Happy Pooch Groom & Board

Happy Pooch Groom & Board offers cage-free boarding and grooming for dogs. The dogs are allowed to socialize under supervision with the permission of their owners. The facility boasts the usage of natural and certified organic grooming products and a location that is away from the main road to keep dogs safe. Owner Poochane Hsu hopes to expand the business to offer training classes in the future.

Healthy Vibez

Opened: April 3

Location: Calvo Plaza, Yigo

Owner: Edmund M. Quitugua

Hours: 

6:30 a.m. – 2 p.m., Monday to Friday; 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sunday

 

Healthy Vibez is a health club run by four distributors of Herbalife products. The store offers ready-made healthy meal shakes, herbal teas, drink enhancers and drink mixes. The club also welcomes customers to spend time in store to relax and decompress before or after work.

Mi Sazon

Opened: March 29

Location: Acanta, Tumon

10:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday – Thursday; 10:30 a.m. – 3 a.m. Friday – Saturday

Mi Sazon, which means “my seasonings” in Spanish, is the second location after the Mi Sazon Mexican Grill in Fairfield, Calif. The menu of the casual Mexican restaurant features build-your-own burritos and tacos with an assortment of choices, including rice, beans, meats, fish, vegetables and toppings. Tortilla choices are flour, whole-wheat, tomato and spinach. The restaurant offers traditional Spanish rice and cilantro rice, as well as black, pinto or refried beans.

Creamroll

Opened: Feb. 25

Location: Pacific Plaza,
Upper Tumon

Hours: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Owners: John Bato, Phillip Hernandez and Rodrick Wilson

 

Creamroll serves ice cream made in front of the customers, who can choose what toppings they want added into their ice cream rolls. The store’s signature rolled ice creams include Lucky Charms, Mr. Carpe Diem and the Big Philly. Creamroll is encouraging local artists to showcase their talents at the store every Friday night during the shop’s “Sweets and a Mic.”

Niu Fusion

Opened: Mid-May

Location: Royal Orchid Guam Hotel, Tumon

The Chinese chain restaurant Niu San Ge Grill opened in the Royal Orchid Guam Hotel as Niu Fusion, with menu items tailored to suit local market tastes. Largely focused on “niu,” or cow, the menu includes Chinese-style kebabs, Chinese barbecue and simmered beef noodle soup made in four different flavors. The restaurant seats 68 customers at booths, tables and a bar situated in front of an open kitchen, where customers can watch noodle soup being prepared in a 10-gallon drum and kebabs cooking on a grill.

Airport Market

Opened: April 13

Location: Airport Road and Marine Corps Drive intersection, Tamuning

Hours: 5 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. daily

Owner: Soon Chul Hong

The owners of The Pet Shop opened Airport Market next door at the former Roasted location. The general retail store sells a variety of items from groceries to cosmetics, specialty coffee, blended beverages, freshly baked bread and other quick breakfast and lunch foods with a Korean influence. A to-go coffee menu is in development, with plans to utilize equipment left by Roasted.

GU Self-Storage

Opened: April 10

Location: 1911 Route 16, Harmon

Hours: 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily

Owner: Calvo Enterprises Inc.

GU Self-Storage opened in the former Guam Power Authority building on Route 16 in Harmon. The 40,000-square-foot facility includes mailboxes and a conference room, where small-business owners or clients with virtual offices can hold meetings or conduct presentations, and 272 storage spaces in various sizes. Also operating out of the facility is Mail Hub, a mail service, notary and shipping supplies business that also partners with Shopthe48.com to bring Guam residents goods from any stateside retailer.

Mama Peaches Cajun Hut

Opened: April 23

Location: Suite 165, Chamorro Village, Hagåtña

Owner: Pearl A. and Ernest E. Turner

Manager: Dominic Turner

Hours: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. daily

 

The couple who previously owned Cajun Delight in Maite from 2010 to 2011 has returned to the restaurant scene with more Cajun cooking. The restaurant is the only one on island that serves Cajun-style food. It features staple dishes like opelousas catfish, collard greens and crawfish etouffe. In the future, the owners hope to open a coastal sit-down style restaurant as well as offer delivery services.

Mariana Lounge 

Opened: April 14

Location: Beach Road in Garapan

Hours: 24 hours

Owner: Kan Pacific Saipan Ltd.

Number of employees: 12

 

The 3,400-square-foot lounge offers tourists and locals a place to wait for outbound flights or wait to check into their hotels. Services include television, internet, massages, showers and light meals, as well as a children’s playroom. The lounge is a subsidiary of Kan Pacific Saipan, which along with Mariana Resort & Spa, Mariana Country Club, Mariana Ocean and Zen Teppanyaki Restaurant, is owned by President Yoshihiro Kitami and his family.

 

Saipan Surfrider Resort Hotel

Opened: April 18

Location: Chalan Kanoa

Manager: Ryuhei Kono

Number of employees: 9

 

Phase I of the Saipan Surfrider Resort Hotel opened April 18 with 21 rooms behind Surf Club restaurant, which opened Aug. 29. Phase 2 will add 18 rooms and phase 3 will add 12 rooms. The completed site incorporates the former Pacific Gardenia 34-room hotel and the former Silver Resort
